Walking & Cycling Routes

Isle of Man walking and cycling routes — Raad ny Foillan coastal path, Millennium Way, mountain bike trails, heritage walks and GPX downloads.

Walking & Cycling

For a small island, the Isle of Man has an extraordinary network of paths and trails. From gentle coastal strolls to gruelling hill climbs.

Major Walking Routes

🌊 Raad ny Foillan

The "Road of the Gull" — 100-mile coastal footpath around the entire island. Stunning cliffs, beaches and wildlife. 5-7 days to complete.

⛰️ Millennium Way

28-mile north-south trail from Ramsey to Castletown, following ancient Viking routes and Royal highways.

🏔️ Snaefell Summit

At 2,036ft, the only mountain on the island. On a clear day you can see England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland simultaneously.

🏰 Heritage Trail

Castletown to Douglas following the old railway line. Flat, family-friendly, great for cycling too.

🦅 Calf of Man

Short boat trip from Port Erin to this uninhabited island — bird observatory, seals, and raw nature.

Cycling

  • Road cycling: Quiet roads, stunning scenery, challenging hills. The TT course is popular with road cyclists.
  • Mountain biking: South Barrule, Archallagan plantation, Slieau Whallian — excellent forest trails.
  • E-bikes: Available for hire from several outlets in Douglas and the south.
  • End to End: Annual mass-participation bike ride from Point of Ayre to the Sound.
Access: Most IoM footpaths are well-maintained and signed. The island has no "right to roam" law like Scotland, but access to open hill land is generally tolerated. Stick to marked paths on farmland. Check gov.im walking for route maps.
